Single UAP observed flying north-northeast during USEUCOM ISR mission — Eastern Mediterranean, 30 May 2022

May 30, 2022Eastern Mediterranean / Syria-Lebanon region (MGRS 36SXD9, redacted) (approx.)
Analysis — our summary

On 30 May 2022 at 0117Z, an ISR aircraft from 50 ATKS/432 AEW operating over the Eastern Mediterranean at FL240 (MGRS 36SXD9) observed 1 UAP flying north to northeast; the screener followed it as long as possible but could not obtain a positive identification. The mission also included a reaction event at 2147Z on 29 May in which 1–3 Russian RFAF SU-30 aircraft, including one that approached within 5 NM, flew under the asset's orbit. These are distinct events; the SU-30 approach is a military aircraft reaction, not a UAP.

As reported — verbatim from the document
"[REDACTED] OBSERVED A UAP AT 0117Z FLY NORTH TO NORTH EAST AND FOLLOWED AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. [REDACTED] SCREENER COULD NOT GET A POSITIVE ID ON THE UAP."
Analyst notes — caveats & confidence

This document covers a USEUCOM/603 AOC mission (not USCENTCOM); takeoff from LICZ (Sigonella, Sicily). Heavy redaction throughout; aircraft type, tail number, exact grid partially obscured by OCR artifacts and FOIA exemptions. Friendly aircraft location given as 36SXD9 at FL240, 142 KIAS. Mission duration 20.5 hrs. Separately, an SU-30 intercept occurred during the same sortie — not coded as UAP. OCR quality fair with some garbled characters. Report ID: MDR 25-0094.
