Silver bullet-shaped object at high speed — Crescent City, California, October 17, 1948
On October 17, 1948, three independent witnesses at Crescent City, California reported sighting an unidentified airborne object. I.W. Allen (barber) described a silver bullet-shaped object at approximately 10,000 ft traveling at about 300 mph with no wings or structure, observed for 4-5 minutes, resembling solid nickel-plated construction. Andrew N. Miller described a silver object resembling a miniature blimp with no wings. Chet Baley described a silver egg-shaped object making 45-degree turns at 20,000-25,000 ft, observed for 4-5 minutes. No propulsion or sound was noted by any witness.
“Allen: 'Silver bullet-shaped object at approximately 10,000 ft, approximately 300 mph, 4-5 minutes, solid nickel-plated construction appearance'; Baley: silver egg-shaped object making 45-degree turns at 20-25,000 ft, 4-5 minutes.”
Incidents 200/200a/200b. Three independent civilian witnesses with consistent core description (silver, no wings, no structure). Baley's description of 45-degree turns is aerodynamically unusual but not impossible. OCR quality poor to moderate. Altitude and speed are estimates from the witnesses, not instrumented measurements.
