⟳ Deeper read pending. This record is from the FBI 62-HQ-83894 flying-disc file, whose cursive, clippings and faint scans are under-read by automated OCR. It is flagged for a vision-transcription pass and likely undercounts what the source contains — see the documents collection note.
Analysis — our summary
The AEC Security Office at the Savannah River Plant advised the FBI on August 9, 1952, that two E.I. du Pont Company employees observed a blue light with an orange fringe, saucer-shaped, fly over the Four Hundred Area of the plant at approximately 9:30 PM on August 8, 1952. The object was described as flying at a high rate of speed. The report was forwarded from the FBI Savannah field office to FBI headquarters as an urgent teletype.
As reported — verbatim from the document
“"TWO EMPLOYEES OF THE E. I. DU PONT COMPANY SAW A BLUE LIGHT WITH AN ORANGE FRINGE SHAPED LIKE A SAUCER FLY OVER THE FOUR HUNDRED AREA OF THE SAVANNAH RIVER PLANT AT APPROXIMATELY NINE THIRTY PM AUGUST EIGHT, FIFTYTWO. OBJECT FLYING AT A HIGH RATE"”
Analyst notes — caveats & confidence
Two witnesses at a nuclear facility; report originated via AEC security. Details are sparse — the teletype is truncated in the OCR and 'high rate' is incomplete. No radar or other sensor data. High-security location increases report credibility. Document is 1952 FBI teletype, OCR is moderately noisy.
