Unidentified object sighted near Fort Chimo, Quebec — red light, aircraft-like
A USAF/SAC message reports that on March 18, 1949 at approximately 1950 hours local, Crystal I (Fort Chimo, Quebec) station personnel observed an unidentified object displaying a red light similar to an aircraft light, at approximately 1,000 feet altitude, traveling from west to east at an estimated speed of 200 mph. It remained in sight approximately 3 minutes. No sound was heard. Four witnesses were described as reliable. No Canadian or USAF aircraft from Goose Bay were confirmed in the area.
“UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT SIGHTED THAT STATION ONE NINE FIVE ZERO O ZEBRA ONE EIGHT MARCH FOUR NINE CMA OBJECT DISPLAYED RED LIGHT SAME AS ACFT CMA APPROX ONE ZERO THOUSAND FEET ALT PD ESTIMATED SPEED TWO HUNDRED MILES PER HOUR PD DIRECTION OF FLIGHT WAS WEST TO EAST.”
